Your show, your gear.
There are many variables when performing live events – the stage, sound, lighting, seating arrangements, and even the nerves of frantically getting ready for the show and then finally stepping in front of the audience. As you probably know by now, you get to control almost all of these variables yourself when you do a live gig online. That can be an empowering thing! But like many other things, it can be a disaster if you’re not prepared for it.
Over the years of performing on stage, running sound, and producing live online events, I’ve seen plenty of production disasters. I’ve even caused a few myself! There’s nothing quite like the thrill of tripping over the main power cable that feeds the entire sound and lighting control systems! Yeah, the show comes to a full stop right there.
Honestly, the most common “disasters” of putting on a live show can be eliminated with just a little planning and a sound check. And it helps to have good gear you can depend on. That’s what I’d like to talk about briefly here.
