I have been in and around bands for a long time. Since the rise of the Mp3 to it’s inevitable downfall, 15 years. During that time many things have changed in the music industry. Yet the one thing, the single thing, that hasn’t changed since the beginning are the ingredients needed to make it happen.
What are those ingredients you ask?
Well arguably BEFORE THE MUSIC, you NEED ENTHUSIASM FIRST.
Wide eyed, unbridled, child like ENTHUSIASM and wonderment.
Enthusiasm for all aspects of your work, all aspects of your career, all aspects of the road that lies before you.
IF, and that’s a big IF, you can sustain this enthusiasm from ALL the members (that’s the key from AAAAAAALLLLL the members) you will be able to sustain the inevitable blows of life as a band. Without enthusiasm you are bound to burn out.
That’s it? Enthusiasm? Boring right? NO!
Many will be quick to throw out enthusiasm for its cooler cousin “nonchalance.” Nonchalance is good on photos or music videos, but not as an ideology to live your life by. So I implore you to look at your projects and see what level of enthusiasm you have, because without enthusiasm you don’t have enough fuel for your journey.
